Hello Teams,

We’d like to welcome Engineering Intern Brendan McLeod to the FRC HQ family.  Brendan just completed his first year at Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he is majoring in Robotics and Mechanical Engineering.  He was a member and ultimately captain of FIRST Robotics Team 1058 in Londonderry, and has been a mentor for both FLL and FRC teams.  He’ll be spending the summer building robots, doing research, and even helping with game ideas.  And he gets paid to do it!  That’s what I call a sweet gig.

Ever wonder what we do with left over bits and pieces from our games at the end of the season?  Some are recycled, some are re-purposed and this year FRC donated 170 basketball rims and nets  to the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester, NH to be shared with Boys & Girls Clubs everywhere.  Hoop shooting robots not included.

If you’re looking for something fun to do with LEGOs over the summer, in addition to starting an FLL team, check out the 2012 MoonBots Google Lunar X PRIZE LEGO MINDSTORMS Challenge.  The competition is for students 9-17 years old, and registration is now open.  To learn more visit www.MoonBots.org

And today, Dean Kamen will be one of the keynote presenters at the US News STEM Solutions live conference http://usnewsstemsolutions.com/stem-live-streaming-schedule today with Kareem  Abdul Jabbar  The conference will live stream this afternoon during the keynote conversation at 6:30 EDT.  FIRST President Jon Dudas will present on a panel on June 28th at 3:45.

I’ll blog again soon,

Frank
