Kit of Parts
|Teams participating in the FIRST Tech Challenge use a kit of parts to construct their robots. The kit of parts in FTC is different from the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC®) kit of parts in that they are reusable from season to season. These robotics kits are designed to give students an iterative engineering experience. Teams can design and build a robot, learn what works and what doesn't and then redesign and rebuild. The high-quality aluminum parts allow for repeated assembly and disassembly over the course of many seasons.|
For the 2013-2014 competition season, both the TETRIX® building system from PITSCO and the Matrix Robotics© kit are authorized for use in competition. Teams are also allowed to build their robots out of raw materials*.
A LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT** robotics controller is required for competition. It may be purchased as part of the TETRIX kit of parts or individually if using the MATRIX kit.
Please select a logo below for more information on each kit. Teams should also review the Game Manual Part 1 for information on raw materials allowed on an FTC robot.
Need help with your robot? Visit the FTC Toolbox where you can find resources for designing, building, programming and controlling your robot.
*FTC allows the use of raw materials in the construction of team robots. The definition of a raw material can be found in the FTC Game Manual part 1 on the Game Page. If you plan to build your robot from raw materials, please refer to this manual prior to designing your robot.
**The LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 is NOT compatible with current FTC software and is not legal for use during the 2013-2014 season.
